Delap's paintings explore classical themes using a bold and expressive exploration of colour and painting techniques. A combination of abstraction and figurative painting is visible in Delap's work which strikes the viewer from a distance and encourages closer inspection. In his work on paper in particular the bold colour and composition capture the attention, but it is on closer inspection that the eye is rewarded by the intricacies and variation of the surface and brushwork. Thematically these painting draw on the the ancient story of Iphigenia, Daughter of Agamemnon, sacrificed by her father before the battle of Troy.
